Wow, I am super stoked to be sharing my experience with you guys in my first blog post as Miss Teen BC 2017. This is so exciting! I can truly say that I never would’ve imagined coming this far in this pageant, everything still feels so surreal. I’d like to start off with a enormous and heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported me, I would’ve never made it this far without you guys, I value and appreciate each and every one of you. Now, I’ll let some new friends on here get to know me!
Competing in the Miss Teenage BC competition was truly a life-changer for me, although it only lasted for 2 days, the amount of joy, knowledge, friends, and opportunities I gained from it will be remembered for a lifetime. When I first applied, I was completely lost and uncertain. Being extremely unfamiliar with pageants and one of the youngest girls there, I was intimidated, but I didn’t let the fear hold me back. I remember saying to myself that no matter what the results are, whether or not I win a title, I would walk away satisfied, because I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried something new. To this day, I am still so proud of myself for taking this incredible opportunity, because not only did it lead me to where I am today, it also opened up brand new windows for me, it boosted my confidence, it made me believe in myself, and it lead me to make some awesome new friends! The outcome of the pageant taught me an important lesson: believe in yourself, have courage, and you will conquer in life.
Next, let me tell you a bit about my personal life! I was born in Beijing, China in 2002, and I immigrated to Canada when I was 10. It was very difficult to fit into Western culture, where everything is so different, not to mention learning a whole other language. I would often get lost during class because I didn’t speak English well, and I struggled greatly when trying to familiarize myself with Canadian customs and traditions. But despite these obstacles, my family and I eventually settled in. Now, my English has improved tremendously, and we love the life we’ve built here in Canada. This arduous but gaining process taught me that change will always be difficult or uncomfortable, but if you are courageous enough to overcome certain obstacles, in the end, it can be very rewarding.
My personality is very colourful. I am a very ambitious, artistic and outgoing person. I love to create, perform, and socialize with others. As a level-six pianist and a rhythmic gymnast of five years, I absolutely adore the stage as well as expressing myself through movement. I’m also a passionate writer and debater. Writing takes me to whole other world, one where anything can happen, one where I can dream freely. Public speaking, however, brings me back to this equally fascinating world. I become ecstatic when speaking to an audience about what I’m passionate about, because inspiring others makes me feel so content and happy. I believe in every single person’s ability to change the world, and I love to encourage those around me to turn their dreams into a reality. My ambition in the future is to be a journalist, so I can write for a living while influencing others with my positivity and ideas.
Get up, dress up, show up, and never give up. As a leader who leads by example, I hope that I will continue to teach others about persistence, being brave, being unapologetically yourself, and much more. I cannot express my gratitude and excitement as I head onwards to the National competition in August, and I’m so thrilled to have all of you join me on my ongoing journey in this pageant. Thank you and all the best to you all!
Until next time,
