Super duper excited to have been able to cheer on the runners, along with Miss Teenage Delta 2016 – Tiara and Miss Teenage Lower Mainland 2016 – Gabriella, at this year’s RBC Run for the Kids! As the largest family fun run in Vancouver, RBC Run for the Kids (formerly ChildRun) inspires participants to raise funds for childhood cancer and mental health initiatives at BC Children’s Hospital. On Sunday, June 5, 2016, over 6,600 participants ran or walked the scenic 5km or 2km Fun Run route and we were able to help raise $1,013,223 for paediatric oncology and mental health initiatives!
I was the cheer squad captain and I had an incredible time with the rest of my team! We spread out along the route and shouted encouragements as the runners went by (“you are doing GREAT!!!” “keep it going!!!”). Some of the participants are FAST – I didn’t wait long until the first runner sprinted past the finish line, red-faced and smiling like it was no big deal (ahh I have so much respect for all the participants)! We then helped with the process of handing out medals to the adorable runners; crowds and crowds of people piled at the finish line, and I was in awe by the large number of people, who took their time off their Sunday mornings (which could have been used for sleeping-in…) to run under the fiery sun! At the after-run entertainment zone, we were quickly assigned to the balloons area, and let’s just say we all felt like we didn’t have enough hands and mouths. 😀 Amazing work to both the participants and volunteers!!! And thank you to Miriam L. for allowing the Miss Teenage Canada girls to be a part of this sensational event!
